Which Dell systems feature AGP slots?

Question

I recieved my new computer today, and was disgusted to find no AGP slot, even moreso after the rep I talked to on the phone told me it had one. A 3ghz P4, 1GB DDR RAM PC isn't going to do me a lot of good with no AGP slot to transfer my 9800 PRO into. So, I'm sending it back and intend to reorder later on. For reference. Which Dell models support AGP 8x? And although its unrelated, do the higher model no.'s also feature more memory expansion slots? Thank you.

I had a 3000, wasnt aware of the AGP lack until it arrived, as Dell provides very vague specs and what the phone rep told me, plus it's 2004, IMHO only 2 DIMM slots and a total lack any modern video ports is pretty unacceptable to put in such a machine, if it was some office bound Celeron or what not, I'd be a lot less surprised.

So Dell doesnt even produce mainboards with AGP slots anymore...? PCI-express's gain is very, very, very minimal over AGP8x currently, and I'd rather not toss out a Radeon 9800 PRO 256 8x.

Which system did you order?  The Dimension 8400, 4700 (and the XPS 3 and 4) have PCI-Express, which is the sucessor to AGP (and eventually PCI as well).   The 8300 and 4600 were the last systems with AGP slots, and I don't think they're sold anymore.   The 3000 and 2700 have only PCI slots.  These are the systems you want to avoid.   In order of preference you want PCIe > AGP > PCI for your video card.

None of the current systems have AGP slots - you can probably still get refurbished 4600 or 8400 systems, though. The 3000 is a low-end budget machine designed for office apps and Internet surfing.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600C/sm/sffagp.htm If you are talking about the 4600 c model, it needs a low profile card. I would not get this one but the full Dim 4600 system if you can. Upgrading the "C" model is a pain I have heard.

AGP is going to be phased out. Intel's new chipsets don't support it at all, which is why Dell's new systems don't.
