McAfee not functioning properly, errors on CHKDSK
Hello there,
I have an INSPIRON E1505 with Windows XP. The McAfee protection was not working properly, so I contacted customer service. They checked my computer and said that I should contact the computer manufacturer because I have errors on CHKDSK. I've done some research on this website, but have not been able to find a solution yet.
I ran the full Dell PC diagnostics, and everything passed except my battery.
I used this page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265#method2
to guide me through chkdsk, running it from "my computer" and choosing "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Phase 2 appeared to be nearly down when I received the prompt, "Windows was unable to complete the disk check."
I'm not sure if this matters, but the computer was not used for 2 years from 2009-2011, as I was out of the country. After I got it running again and ran updates, it seemed to be working just fine until I recently discovered this issue with McAfee.
Everything else seems to be working just fine.
Thanks for any support you can provide!

The drive is dying and should be replaced immediately. CHKDSK DOES NOT FIX Physically Bad Drives.:emotion-9:

Try running CHKDSK /R from a command window, then rebooting so CHKDSK has access to all files. Another option is to run CHKDSK in Safe Mode.
If neither of the above works, download the utility TESTDISK and try running that.
If all that fails, it's time for a new drive.
