Dell E520 processor upgrade help!
hi there,
i want to upgrade my dell e520. I have done quite a bit of work to it: and these are its current specs:
standard e520 motherboard
intel E6300 dual core 1.86ghz processor, 500W PSU, 1Tb HDD, 4gb RAM, Ati HD4650 512 mb graphics card.
I want to take the processor up a notch, and found this
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131823
The intel core 2 quad Q6600. Will this work??
i notice its on the LGA 775 socket, 65nm architecture and 1066mhz bus speed. would just like a few people to confirm this for me if possible.
thank you!

Hi there,
I know this is old now but thought i'd post to help any future upgraders...
The Q6600 (quad 2.4Ghz) will work with bios 2.4 as correctly posted above. I myself recently went for the Q6700 (quad 2.66Ghz) (£100 from ebay :emotion-2: ).
I upgraded from Pent 4 D 945 3.4Ghz and used the stock cooler and artic silver 5 therm paste (highly recommended!!!) it idles at ~30 - ~33C per core and after 2hrs+ gaming it reaches ~45 - 49 C.
I have 450W PSU, 4Gb 533 DDR2, 2 HDD, ATI HD3870 and Q6700 and XP SP3 atm and it runs great!!
from the reading i did on the subject - the e520 with P/G945 intel chipset will take any 65nm cpu upto 1066FSB.
Hope this helps future modders/upgraders.
Thanks.this is the fastest at that bus speed and socket. and it's quad-core. cpu is $120 on ebay. has 8MiB cache. difference from QX6700 is the speed 2933MHz.

this is a Xeon, it has 2x4MiB caches 8-way $30-$60 some folks are labeling it as a Q6700. so far, these are the maximum processors for that bus speed. sure this mobo doesn't do 1333? doesn't seem to have the beefy cache most xeons have.

Oh wow......my first post is nearing 5 years old now :).
FYI i did eventually upgrade on this machine to a Q6600......but have since moved onto a fully custom build with a I7 4770K and dual GTX 780's :emotion-4:
But thanks for the trip down memory lane :)

Check the posts HERE about installing a Q6600, in the e520.
Before installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version 2.2.1 [or higher], when additional CPU support was added.
