Setup cannot run on this machine.
Inspiron 8600, Win XP SP2.
Many times, when I try run Setup to install downloads from the Dell site for my notebook, I get this message from Windows:
DELL System Information Module---------------------------DELL System Information Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.---------------------------[Debug] [Send Error Report][Don't Send]
This is followed by
---------------------------Dell System Software - InstallShield Wizard---------------------------Setup cannot run on this machine.---------------------------OK---------------------------
Then the driver install halts and I can't install it. These drivers ARE correct for this machine. The latest example is Dell Notebook System Software (R96945), but I have also had the problem with the previous version of NSS, display adapter drivers, wireless NIC drivers, and more.
With some drivers, I can install successfully via Device Manager when the setup program crashes, but most times (like this time) that's not an option.
Any idea how I can fix this?
