Wireless network, not sure how to begin

Hello,

Please prepare yourselves for a few silly questions...
I just purchased an inspiron 6000D Notebook, and I guess it has some features that I am unsure how to use.  My main concern is establishing my internet connection.  I have the following on my notebook:

Windows XP Pro
Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 (802.11b/g) Internal Wireless Inspiron 6000

I guess I don't know where to start.  When I first turned on the computer, and tinkered with my network settings, there where a few wireless connections already available ("linksys", and "eatme").  I did not set them up, and I have no idea what they are.  On my old notebook, I just connected to my cable modem via the ethernet connection and presto, connected to the internet.  But now, when I connect the inspiron, I have no connection.  I've tried to turn off the modem, then restart it connnected to the inspiron, but no such luck.  Do I need to set up a network to use the ethernet connection?  Can I maybe use my old wireless router (d-link, used a long time ago) to set up a wireless connection?  Do I need a wireless router to set up a wireless connection?

Anyway, I know these issues probably cannot be solved with a post, but I was sort of hoping that someone could maybe point me in the right direction.  Maybe a tutorial or something.

Thanks for the help, it is very much appreciated,
Andy
