Precision 5820 boot looping and giving 1-4-1 error

I’m having a strange issue with a Dell Precision T5820 and I’m trying to figure out whether I’m dealing with a BIOS, motherboard, RAM, or power issue.

The system has a intel xeon w-2135 and I am using SK Hynix 16 gig ddr4 registered ecc

The system powers on normally, but usually shuts itself off after roughly 30 seconds. All of the fans appear to be connected and spinning.

Here’s what I’ve observed so far:

  • The front power light sometimes shows a pattern that looks like 1 amber flash, then 4 quick amber flashes, then another amber flash, followed by 3 quick amber flashes and a short musical/jingle sound.

  • At other times I get 1 amber flash followed by solid white.

  • Replacing/resetting the CMOS battery did not change the behavior.

  • The PSU built-in self-test button on the back produces a solid light.

  • My keyboard does power on but when I try to perform a BIOS recovery nothing seems to happen

  • When I remove all RAM, the system does not give any power indication lights at all

  • With RAM installed, I have also seen other diagnostic behavior, but I have not been able to get the system to POST normally or display video.

  • The system still turns itself off after a short period.

I’m wondering if this could be a corrupted BIOS

Has anyone seen this combination of symptoms on a T5820?

Thanks.
