Dell EMC Unity issue

Hello Merry Christmas. I’m currently facing an issue with a pool expansion process. The pool is dynamic, and the expansion has been stuck at 61% for some time. While checking the status, I noticed that one of the disks I recently added is showing the following message: Degraded – The disk has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. For your reference, I added four new disks as part of this expansion. Could you please advise: Whether it is safe to replace the degraded disk at this stage, and • If the pool expansion will continue normally after the replacement, or • If there are any additional steps I should take to resolve this issue.

    Hello ALHussein510ad9,

What is the raid type of the pool that you are expanding? With having a degraded drive as one of the drives that is an expansion drive it is best to replace that drive so that the expansion can complete.

    Hello ALHussein510ad9,

    Traditional Pools

    ·         Capacity Addition: Requires adding drives in RAID group increments. For example, if using RAID 5 (4+1), you must add at least 5 drives.

    Hello ALHussein510ad9,

I would replace the degraded drive and once that is completed and online your expansion should complete.
