Computer is acting jumpy. Scan disk won't complete and printer doesn't print.

Question

First the computer started acting goofy so I tried running scan disk. It keeps restarting over and over and never completes a scan. Now my printer will act like it's going to print then just stops. Sometimes it prints but all I get is PCL6 ERROR - FALSE. This is printed on the paper, not the screen. What is going on?

The scandisk problem may be circumvented by starting your computer in safe mode before running scandisk. Once you've done this once and perform this check regularly, it should run in normal boot mode.

The printer error appears to be a driver or printer mode problem. Have you updated your drivers? What printer are you using?

OK, scan disk in safe mode worked fine. But my printer still isn't working.   My printer is a Samsung ML-1430 conncected to a parrallel port. What I believe caused the problem was that I was sending multiple print commands from the desktop (Windows ME) folder without opening the document. I was choosing the files directly from the folder on the desktop and right-clicking the mouse button to choose Print. I have done this before, but this time I was selecting many more documents than before. The printer printed a few just fine, then stopped printing. I then selected print again and got the error message:   PCL6 ERROR - FALSE SYSTEM:    WSIM/xl_pa_sim LINE:          249 VERSION:   QPDL 1.13 04-01-2002   I have turned the printer off and on. I tried printing from another program. I have re-started the computer several times. I have downloaded the latest driver and installed it. I have unplugged the printer, uninstalled the driver, restarted the computer, let it sit idle for the night, re-installed the driver, plugged in the printer and restarted the computer. It still prints the above message instead of a document.   Please help.

The Samsung site attributes this error to a conflict with HP printer drivers. If you have or have previously had an HP printer, you must uninstall the drivers.

I never had an HP printer. The only printers listed are Acrobat PDF & distiller and a Quick books internal printer

Hey everybody, I have solved the problem!! Went into Device Manager and deleted the LTP1 port. Restarted the computer and the printer works fine. Thanks for your help.
