17 R4, battery replacement, higher voltage one?
Dear Support-Community,
the Battery of my 17 R4 has to be changed.
I ordered a new Battery from the official Dell-Store.
The Store suggested a 68 Wh / 15.2 V Battery for my Service-Tag (There is also no other option).
My actual / defect Battery has 99Wh / 11.4 V.
Afaik, this big Difference in Voltage (15.2 V to 11.4 V) is normally a high risk for the Notebook.
So my question is:
Is it safe to replace the defect Battery with the new higher voltage one?

Hi @Font123 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Alienware 17 R4 notebooks have a power supply protection circuit integrated within its system board (aka motherboard) which is designed to accommodate OEM replacement battery 68Wh DP/N 44T2R (15.2V) and 99Wh DP/N 9NJM1 (11.4V).
Check beneath the OEM replacement battery white label's square matrix that year/month is less than 6 months old. Reject battery if there is no white label.

Please don't give such misleading information when you don't know. If you had said "maybe" or "might" or "possibly", it wouldn't be so bad. But since you made such definitive statements, without checking relevant Dell documents, you may mislead someone with those false statements.
It's normal that when a laptop is designed to use two or more differently-sized batteries, the voltage will vary. Dell has designed the laptop to accept both those batteries and both those voltages..
Here is the official information from Alienware 17 R4 Setup and Specifications:

Hi @Font123 this is a video for 17 R4 Battery removal. The ideal would be to get the replacement battery and undertake the battery swap. Watch the video a few times and visit Dell documentation for Removing the battery. Be careful, with plenty of elbow room, and do not rush. No, it is not a high risk. Yes, it is safe. It's normal that when a laptop is designed to use two or more differently-sized batteries, the voltage will vary. Dell has designed the laptop to accept both those batteries.
Parts-People also sells the battery you asked about, compatible with your laptop, though they are currently out of stock.
Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. It's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard. (Repeatedly touching a metal case part is not sufficient mitigation with modern components.)
