Inspiron 6000 network drivers

Question

Hi people, I have an Inspiron 6000 laptop, I was listening to music via the headphones and the sound popped and the machine went off. I restarted it but as soon as it would try to start (just after the F8 selection) it would fail-restart and say windows could not start, I tried loads of options like scaning ram, hdd, chkdsk.exe etc but nothing seemed to work. I tried safe mode but it was hanging on mup.sys so I expanded the mup.sys file from cd but still wouldnt work. so I reistalled a 2nd copy of windows onto the drive which created a windows.0 folder. next I proceeded to download the drivers from the dell website, I put the service tag in and downloaded all drivers. I installed the NIC driver and the wireless driver but the Intel Wireless/PRO software says driver not installed. so I tried dell wireless utility but still wont work. I tried connecting to internet via NIC but nothing, I have tried all software and patches (which said no hardware found) and I cannot get on the internet, has my motherboard blown? I can get online using my Nokia N8 via USB so I allowed dell to automatically detect my comp but this only brought up the same drivers. I cant see any undetected hardware in device manager or network connections/adapters. I am using xp home x32.   Regards Darren

The Notebook System Software is crucial to driver installation. It needs to be installed first along with the chipset and before all other drivers. It's under System Utilities. You must install drivers in the right order: support.dell.com/.../document

Can you get online via the Ethernet cable?

Several of the drivers are more up to date on the 6400 page, all except Video and maybe wifi.

I re installed the OS, installed all drivers in the order you suggested but no difference. what key combo do i use to fire up the wireless adapter? also the ethernet isnt there its just showing the 1394 connection in network connections. nothing else. any suggestions?

just tried to install quickset and it said this isnt a supported system and cannot continue???

sorted it now, went into bios and had to select a few things, not just wireless, but its done now, cheers guys
