Serious Graphics/Monitor Problem - Please Help!

Hi, this is kind of hard to explain because I'm not sure what went wrong myself, but here goes...

I just bought a new graphics card (Radeon 9250 PCI) for my Dimension 2400 desktop along with 512 extra MB of RAM and everything was going fine. I had already hooked up my graphics card, but when I hooked up my extra RAM, for some reason it reset my drivers (or something) to where the computer wouldn't read my new ATI graphics card when I started up the computer. I figured no big deal and uninstalled the graphics card and thought I'd just reinstall it. Anyway, in the instructions for installing the Radeon, it says I need to DISABLE my ONBOARD GRAPHICS before I install it. So I did just that, and the computer told me I needed to restart the computer before it would take effect.

I think that was where it started... now, when I turn on my computer, it will bring up the Windows XP logo while it's loading (like always), but then the screen just goes black. What the heck is going on here? I'm supposed to be able to plug my monitor into the new graphics card and turn on the computer, right? I've tried taking out the RAM and the new graphics card and I just can't get back into my computer. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance,
Hunter

Yeah, I spoke to a Dell tech guy in the chat thing, and he told me to do the same thing, but it's still not working. I'm starting to think that I accidentally disabled something else? When I thought I was disabling the onboard graphics card, it was called something like VGA, and that's what I disabled. I assumed it was the onbaord graphics card, but maybe it was something else.

Any help here is greatly appreciated...

I see. Try setting your BIOS to default settings by pressing ALT F, then ALT E, then ALT B (should  have beeps on every command then it would restart afterwards). Then go back to BIOS then check the "Intergrated Devices", look for "Primary Video Controller" then set it to "auto".

Set your on-board video graphics adapter to "Auto" in BIOS. Should work.

If you don't have anything to back up, yeah! It's better to isolate software - hardware. But you can boot to safe mode right? Have you tried system restore to a point where everythings working fine? If yes, well, is your system purchased after July 16? If it is, you have a PC Restore option on your system (Pc restore basically restore your system back to its factory settings). On the DELL screen, hit CTRL F11.

I hope this solves your computer issue.

Alright, just reset the BIOS to default settings, and tried running primary video controller with Auto, and it just took me back to the Windows XP loading screen, then turned black again.

If I really had nothing on my computer that I need anyway, should I just try reinstalling Windows XP and see if that fixes my problem?

    Thanks, Hunter

At the DELL screen, hit F8. You should see a "Windows advanced option menu". Scroll down and highlight "safe mode". Hit enter (if it asks you to which operating system to enter, just press enter to Winxp). Then it would show you "driver addresses" then boots to the welcome screen. You should know if you're under safe mode when you see "safe mode" on four (4) corners of your screen.

    Click start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.

Then on the window, choose "restore my computer to an earlier date"

Choose a date when it was working fine.

Then keep hitting next until it process the command.

Then it would automatically restart your system.

    ***

Another thing, if system restore would not work, go back to safe mode and uninstall the video driver you are currently using then restart, boot to normal. See if it would work.

    This is weird.

When I tell it to enter safe mode and select Windows XP, it will show me the dirver addresses, but it doesn't go past that. The last driver it shows me is \WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys and it's just kind of paused.

    sirjv,

I don't believe I have a "PC restore" option on my desktop, as it was purchased in July of 2003. I do have a "system restore" option, but I don't think I can access that without getting into Windows, can I? And how do I enter safe mode? I've done it before, but I can't remember how I did so. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

    Thanks, Hunter

Do you think I should try running the Dell Drivers CD?

Really? Well i guess that your operating system is corrupted then, casued by one of those drivers. I suggest you run a diagnostic first to the system then go ahead with the reinstallation.

**If you return the system to its original state (e.g. built in video card) does it work?
