Screen dims to almost unreadable
Hello,
I am currently using a Dell Studio 1537 and recently my display has started dimming to the point where I can only view what is on the screen if I shine a torch onto it. I upgraded to Windows 7 only a day before this problem occured, so it may be something to do with that or just coincidence. I have tried downloading the ATI Catalyst Control Center for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 graphics card, but the software will not install for some reason. I connected my laptop to an external monitor with a VGA cable, and when the screen on my laptop dims, the external monitor functions correctly and looks fine. Using the Function + F8 key to select the display properties (External monitor only, laptop only, both), the screen refreshes and displays correctly in full brightness for a random length of time. Any input on how to fix this problem would be great, or if it is a hardware or software fault. I have tried to contact Dell via live support chat, but my laptop is out of warranty and I don't want to pay to have my problem diagnosed.
Thanks.
