I recently have had a problem with my Dell XPS M1530. The laptop crashed from what I presume was it overheating. When I switch it back on the screen lights up white with no display. I am able to use the laptop through an external display (pressing FN F8) however the quality is very poor, this is supprising as I used to use an external display frequently at a high quality and I am now unable to change the screen resolution in the display settings. I have also noticed that I can no longed put the laptop into 'sleep' mode. I have no idea how the two errors could be related but both happened after the same crash.

I have tried to recconect the video cable but unfortuneatley it didnt work.

Please could someone let me know if there is a simple fix to this problem or if the GPU or screen needs to be replaced?
