NW backup for SUSE client running very slow
Hello,
I have a problem with one of my customer regarding performance during a backup for a client Linux where there are some file systems with big capacity :
Server di backup NSR
Hostname : gsvbck50
S.O. Windows Server 2003 R2 standard edition SP2
Hardware: Intel Xeon cpu 3.4 Ghz, 2GB ram
Storage node NSR
Hostname : gsvbck04
S.O. Windows Server 2003 R2 standard edition SP2
Hardware : dual-core AMD Opteron processor 2218 2.6 Ghz , 4GB ram
Client Linux NSR
hostname : ghpcbk01
Sist.Operativo :
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (x86_64)
VERSION = 9
PATCHLEVEL = 3
Kernel : 2.6.5-7.244-smp
Hardware : cpu : 2 x Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2218 - 2.6 Ghz , ram :8GB
Library
Adic i2000 with 8 driver LTO2
The library is connected with FC to backup server gsvbck50 and to the storage node gsvbck04
Network
All the server are connected with Gbit on Cisco Catalyst 6500
Test backup
Full backup of file system capacity about 800GB from the client ghpcbk01 on the storage node gsvbck04 : the first tape is witten with transfer rate about 30 MB/sec, after this tape is full, the transfer rate of the second tape is really slow about 1 MB/sec.
The problem is the same if he uses the backup server instead of storage node .
He tries to do a backup in the network from the same client using a TAR without problem regarding the slow of the transfer rate .
Any suggestions on how to test or any suggestions to solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance
Andrea
