Routing Speed

Question: I just wanted to try out to replace some of our Routers with DELL 6248 Switches. OK, created Routing VLANS, configured Routing, tested Routing, everything alright and fine.

NOW when looking at the ip interface configuration in the golbal Routing tab in the 6248 web configuration, it shows me a "link speed data rate" of "10 half". Now, what is that? Does that mean, only 10 Mbit/s half duplex

is supported when using the switch as a router on this interfaces? That would be very sad but i definitely need to know. BTW: the interface is connected via 1000Mbit/s to another 6248 and the link speed in the glopbal port setting shows 1000Mbit. But i guess routing speed is much slower, right? Please clarify.

best regards

Joerg

The switch routes at near enough wirespeed; when you are looking at the IP>IP Interface config screen, are you displaying for the VLAN or for the physical interface?

AFAIK you can´t display for the physical interface, ONLY for vlans. And you, too, can only assign routing entrys to vlans, not for physical interfaces. So my answer wuld be: the vlan.

You can display the speed for both VLANs and loopbacked interfaces . I think this should display the correct speed - let me check on one of my switches tomorrow and I'll come back to you
