INSPIRON 1520, WIRELESS DOWN HAVE 1394 ADAPTER AND NETWORK CONTROLLER DRIVER NOT INSTALLED

It is been very frustrating

I have been working on the is for a week, and none of the drivers on the CD nor on the website have helped yet.

My IT guy at work could not even help me out.

One day I started getting tonns of error messages on a memory file not reading at a certain point and stopping.

I followed alot of forums with the same problem, and in the end I reformatted my hard drive, deleting the main partition and recreating it, only after the restore in XP did not work.

I totally missed the PC restore option, which does not work. (of course if it was in the largest partition it is toast and if not something toasted it)

I reinstalled the windows XP, following the dell CD instructions on re-installation and then again the ones online.

When i got the computer it worked, and now when i turn on the wi/fi, it does not even search for available networks (that software/utility does not even come up)

Everything except the wireless works.  And I get messages that the network controller driver is not installed.

I would really like to figure this out, and i am still searching for the correct driver, as none i have found work.

Jody, about to go crazxy..ugh

Jody,

I usually recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in your wireless router.

How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)

Jody,

Did you ever fix your problem? I have the same exact problem and I am going crazy trying to figure it out. If you figured it out could you please tell me what you did to fix it?? I would greatly appreciate it.

I did fix my wireless problem, I had to search the dell website for it.

When I finished I realized that one of the DVD's that came with the computer for reinstall - I had thought it was software for the webcam, but I discovered that it was suppose to be installed prior to the windows CD, so it also could have been part of my problem.

I still have the intel icon telling me I am missing a driver, but I was able to  fix my wireless.  It took a while and it is the driver for Dell wireless 1395 WLAN mini-card.

And they are not kidding there an installation sequence;  Go to the website and look it up it is a bit different than the one that is on the reinstall disk.  If it does not work then you can always retry.

It took my more than a week to get it right, so when i realized I missed that cd prior to windows, I decided it is working so I am not messing with anything.

I advise copying any drivers u download onto a flash drive, so if have to start over you don't have to go find it again later.

Good luck, hope this helps.. unfortunately I can not remember all my sequences I was about to throw my laptop out a window when it worked.. so I am just happy to havge it working.

Jody,

Looks like you're not out of the woods, yet. After a fresh installation you need to follow these instructions to get the drivers installed. You should have a drivers disk but if you can, download the latest drivers from Dells website.

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Hi Rick,

I dont plan on reinstalling again unless my computer decides to crash.

And for some reason my Service Tag fails to show my wireless card.

However, my posting was to answer a question from someone else; I do realize that one Disk I did not install and none of the re-installation steps even include installing this disk either.

But right now everything works, so I don't intend to re-install, as jmy computer has had four fresh re-installs following  the directions provided on the re-inistall disk and then the ones provided online.

I had to search the web site for the correct driver for my wireless the ones provided were wrong.

So I am fine with how my computer is running right, and it took alot to get there.  If it crashes and I have to another re-format and reinstall.. then I will.

Jody,

You have a few options. First, did you install the Desktop/Notebook Utilities and the chipset drivers? These control items that will NOT install un less they are installed first.

You can try using EVEREST Home Edition and see if it finds your wireless card. If it does, if you left click on it, then click on Update drivers, it will take you to the manufacturers website and you can get the drivers you need from there.

And the nexct time you need to re-install the operating system, I would try restoreing using the factory image, everything is included there.

Well If i can restore my computers Software to factory settings after reformatting my hard drive, then I would definately do it.

If not, then that is no longer an option.

I will keep your suggestion in mind should I have to go through this again, I just hope I don't .
