Dear Dell Community,

I purchased a pre-owned DELL XPS 9360 with Intel i7 7500u (14 months old).

I found it was getting quite hot, so I installed the Intel Power Gadget 3.5 to monitor what is going on.

At idle or light tasks (e.g. while writing this question plus Spotify), CPU Package Temp is between 48°C and 63°C which I believe is fine. Package Frq toggles between 1 GHz and 2.7 GHz. Fan is OFF.

 However when I do some heavy tasks (e.g. training some artificial neural networks in Python) Package Frq0 goes to constantly 3.5 Ghz and temperature moves between 95°C and 99°C.

I am wondering if this harmful to the CPU (especially if the heavy task persists for multiple hours). Fan seems to run at max. speed.

 Is this normal or should I worry?

Do you recommend to throttle processor speed to avoid temperature >90°C? If yes, how?

Or are there any other suggestions how to fix?

It seems that other DELL customers have the same issues (but on different configurations) but non of the suggested solutions did work for me.

Research on the www gives me a split images. Some say, if everything is within spec (for my CPU "within spec" means <100°C --> My CPU is within spec) but some say that everything above 80°C (or 70, or 60, or 90...) is way too hot and will destroy your CPU within a few hours
