Secure Boot 2023 certificates on Alienware Aurora R11 (BIOS 1.0.24)
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand the Secure Boot certificate transition for my Alienware Aurora R11, and I hope someone from the community or Dell staff can clarify the situation.
My system details:
Model: Alienware Aurora R11
BIOS version: 1.0.24 (released June 2024)
OS: Windows 10 with ESU
Secure Boot: Enabled
I’m checking whether the system is ready for the upcoming Secure Boot certificate changes planned by Microsoft for 2026 (replacement of the 2011 certificates with the Windows UEFI CA 2023 chain).
Here’s what I found:
Secure Boot is active (Confirm-SecureBootUEFI = True)
The Secure Boot database does not contain “Windows UEFI CA 2023” or “Microsoft Corporation KEK 2K CA 2023”
The registry key UEFICA2023Status does not exist
Windows System Log shows Event ID 1801, which states that updated Secure Boot certificates are available but could not be applied to the firmware
From Microsoft’s documentation, Event 1801 indicates that the firmware is not accepting or storing the new certificates, and that an OEM firmware update may be required to complete the transition.
My questions for the community:
Has Dell provided any official information about adding the Windows UEFI CA 2023 certificates to the Aurora R11 firmware?
Is BIOS version 1.0.24 considered the final release for this model, or is a future update planned (e.g., 1.0.25) to support the Secure Boot 2026 transition?
Has anyone with an Aurora R11 successfully received the 2023 certificates in their Secure Boot database?
Are there any Dell‑recommended steps for this model to ensure compatibility with the new Secure Boot certificate chain?
Any insights or official guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
