memory upgrade for Precision Workstation 420
Current memory on this workstation is 384 (64 x 2 and 128 x 2). Odered more memory from Dell (2 x 256) and think we got the right thing (RIMM PC800) as we ordered it using the service tag.
When we installed it, replacing the 2 64's, when we turned the computer back on, it had a loud, continuous beep. Tried switching them around, putting in with the 64s instead of the 128's and that did not work either.
Any idea on the problem? I stayed on hold with Dell for 25 minutes then got disgusted and am trying here, where I always get my best answers.
Is it possible we have to flash the bios? If so, please direct me to the knowledgebase article as I have not done this in over a year . Also, the easiest way to check and see what the current bios are?
Thanks for any assist.
