Regrettable Purchase

Well, this a bout my third week with the infamous Dell. From day one there have been problems, and I have received mediocre to poor customer support. As a dedicated Compaq user, I was hesitant to change brands, as my last Compaq has lasted 6 years and counting. It is a 120MHz with 40MB RAM. So can someone tell me why this new 933MHz, 256MB RAM which I paid a lot of money for, is such a dog when it comes to operating speed? You name it, printing, applications, internet, all are appreciably slower when compared to the earlier machine. 90% more clock speed, 85% more RAM. What gives? What did I spend my money on? All I get from support is either it's Windows ME - they all do that sir excuse, or else I am supposed to edit my MSCONFIG which will magically send my operating speeds to the the heavens. Yeah right. Tried that. I periodically check my performance menu to see if by some accident I received a lesser, slower Celeron with 64MB RAM. I mean, when I went from my Commodore 64 to an Apple 2E, the jump was astounding. What's going on here?
