video controller problem, code 1, please help

Hi,
I have a very trivial problem with my video controller device, it says 'This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)' in the device manager window.
The problem came when i tried to update my Nvidia graphics drivers from the DELL update drivers page (when you specifically pick your model and windows OS), the installation program told me to restart the computer and then resume to update the drivers, when i did restart the computer and logged in, there installation program did appear however it was not doing anything for a very long time, so i decided to log off using task manager and then re-login, however i then find out that my video controller has an error.
I've tried reinstalling/updating the Nvidia graphics driver to fix the video controller problem by the following methods:

  • going to Nvidia official to download the installation program and trying to update
  • use my drivers and utilities CD that came with the computer
  • use my drivers that existed in the C drive and my D drive (RECOVERY drive) to update
  • letting it automatically search online for updates

However i get the same message : "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error whilte attempting to install it, This device is not configured correctlyl. (Code 1)"

I have looked at other forum messages with Code 1 video controller problems but it doesn't answer my problem because i am in a different situation.

I have tried to use Systems Restore but i've updated my BIOS system on the same day as i updated the Nvidia graphics drivers, therefore the Systems Restore doesn't even work for the new BIOS system.

My computer specs are:

DELL

Windows Vista Business (but i use it for home)

32 bit OS

Vostro 400

Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33ghz

2046mb ram

Please help me find a way of fixing this without the need to format the computer,

Many thanks

Peter

I've solved the problem by restarting the computer and booting the startup of the computer through theuse of Windows Vista Disc and i did a system restore through the safe mode. So now my video displays normal graphic depths.

thanks for the help anyway, although no one had any idea :smileytongue:
