I purchased this laptop for my daughter 2 years ago for Christmas and it had been working flawlessly. She used it during the morning hours and later that night tried to turn the device on and received the 7 beep error code. Nothing happens on the screen but you can hear the fan motor working. I have been told that this could be caused by several different component issues, so my question is, are the parts for the Dell Inspiron N5040 compatible with the Dell Inspiron 15 N5040? I have run out of ideas on how to fix this device for her and do not want to put a lot of money into the machine.

From what I am being told, the problem with the 15 N5040 is that the keyboard is not functioning and there is no hard drive. Could I not just transfer the working parts from my daughters device to this one?

Please let me know if you need any specifics on the device other than both are running windows 7.
