Don't know if this is a Microsoft or a Dell question. When I turn on my Inspiron 5150, it takes nearly two minutes to go through whatever it goes through before I get the Windows screen. Would System restore fix this? Would system restore do anything to my sasser virus patch, recently installed? Is there another solution? Thanks.
More of a software question, but anyway how many programs are you launching at startup...you should try to minimize this to as few as possible. Also check task manager(ctrl+alt+del) to see how many processes you have running and try to wittle those down as well, using extreme caution of course. I have the boot time on my 5150 to just under a minute. Joe

Joe, I took a look at task manager and haven't a clue about what should stay open or be closed. I had a chat with an MSN tech a week back and he/she had me end a bunch of tasks - anything ending with_up.exe, any starting with avserve or avserve2, skynetave and a bunch of others. I'm semi computer literate, i.e., I can find things, know what they are called (sometimes) but don't know what they mean - like everything listed in task manager. I see a call to Dell in my future
Try this site www.blackviper.com it will show you how and what you can safely shut down, most people have way to much stuff on there system slowing it down on startup and otherwise. How many processes does task manager say your running (bottom left corner)? Joe
