scadplugin for iDRAC smart card authentication
I am running a PowerEdge R830 equipped with iDRAC 8, running the latest firmware (v2.75.75.75).
I have configured the iDRAC for local user smart card authentication from the server's GUI.
However, when I try to connect from the client workstation I run into two problems. The first is it is
only compatible with IE (who still uses IE?). The second problem is when I try to access it
using IE, it tries to download and install the scadplugin (https://idrac-XXXXXXX/software/scadplugin.cab).
I give approval to install the plugin, but it does not install because it is looking for
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable. That version of Visual C++ is no longer available or supported
by Microsoft. Why is this Dell plugin looking for a 15 year old software library? Even if I could find a
copy of Visual C++ 2005 redistributable, installing an unsupported piece of software will introduce vulnerabilities
into the system.
Does anyone know how to get the scadplugin to work with later versions of Visual C++?
