ISO to bootable DVD

Hi,

I have xps 410 with windows vista home premium x32 bit. I want to install windows vista ultimate x64 bit. I upgraded my system to 4gb so that ultimate could be installed as it is x64 bit. If I try to upgrade from home premium 32 bit to ultimate 64 bit, it doesn't let me. So I believe I have to do clean install.

I have Vista Ultimate in the iso format. How can I install the OS? For sure, have to burn it to the DVD, but in which format? Should I extract the files using any iso utility or should burn the single ISO file as is to the DVD? What will make it bootable bcz I need to boot using the DVD?

Appreciate the help in advance.

Malik.

    Hi

Do you have burning software on you computer ?

I have Roxio Creator home and it puts a Roxio emblem on the ISO all i have to do is click on the ISO and it will open Roxio and burn it to a DVD so you can boot to install your OS.

You can not just copy the ISO to DVD it will not boot the DVD that way.

    Good Luck

Edit you do have to install Vista 64 bit as a clean install

They should all work.  You need to look for the option "Burn Disc Image" and then point the software to the .iso file you have.

Burn the DVD first, then put it in your DVD drive and boot it to test.  Don't wipe your hard drive before you are sure the DVD works.

    Adnan Malik,

    You said...

I have Vista Ultimate in the iso format.

How did you get Vista Ultimate in the iso format? Vista Ultimate comes on an Operating system disk.

If I select .iso from windows explorer, I get the pop up stating: Windows cannot open this file. Then it gives the option to use the web service to find the correct program or select a program from the list of installed program.

If I access Nero directly, there are various options. As soon as I select 'Disc Image or Saved Project', a new window opens to browse the file from the HDD. I navigate to the windows vista ultimate .iso file and select it. Now in the new window I get Image file as the .iso file and the destination drive as my DVD writer. Now the question is:

If I burn from here, will this be a bootable windows ulitmate DVD?

    Thank You.

    Adnan Malik,

Did you create this image using a program?

    If so, what program?

    Adnan Malik,

Just shecking as I didn't think they'de do such a thing.

Open Nero and burn the image to the disk. It will become bootable. Insert the disk and restart your computer. If the disk does not boot, then restart and press F2 and look for boot sequence and make it so it boots the CD/DVD rom before the hard drive.

PudgyOne - Most downloads from MSDN are in ISO format.  I download from there all the time.  All current Operating System downloads are in ISO format since they must be bootable.  I use the latest version of Roxio Creator make the image disks.  ISO files for products that are installed on a running system I used an ISO mounter to access the disk image, allowing me to skip the disk burning step.  Currently I use Virtual CloneDrive to mount ISO images.  ISO Recorder by  Alex Fienman is a highly recommend free ISO burning software, but I have never used it.  Note All MSDN product downloads are not free.  Trial software is free.

    msgale,

Just being cautious and I didn't think you could download an image of Ultimate from a website.

Since they said they have Nero, I told them to but the image to the disk.
