Dell web pages no loading properly
OK this is kind of a weird thing to post here, but i am at a loss. I am running IE 7.0.5730.13 on a Dell Inspiron 6000. i am using Norton Internet security version 15.5.0.23.
all Dell web pages load incorrectly, all other web pages seem to be fine. Here is a screenshot of how dell web pages look: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3040/2833723992_4d1d6022a7_o.jpg . Even this forum does not load properly with the graphics in the menu bar on the right not showning.
I have deleted all, cookies, temp files and browsing history from IE.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
Jadie

Davet,
Thanks for your reply. I installed the latest version of Flash (9,0,124,0) and rebooted and still no luck! The Dell pages are loading the same as before.
Any other ideas? anyone?
thanks again.....jadie

Hi The_Namek ,
It would be obvious except IE is the only browser I have. but your question made me think and I am on Comcast cable and have a modem/router. So I tried the site (dell.com) on my wifes computer and got the same result, so I am guessing that comcast some how is part of the problem. maybe i will reset my modem and see what happens.
I'll let you know!
thanks again....jaide

jadie56,
Let me ask the most obvious (IMO) question. Have you tried accessing the Dell site with a different browser to see if the problem is specific to IE?

HI Lemon Drop, I am still having the same problem, no change at all! I am totally stumped at this point. I have purchased nothing but Dell computers for my last 4 systems and would like to get another. I never buy a canned one though and am so hooked on the customization on their website, i may have to go else where. excuse the rant there.
I unstalled flash again using the uninstall program from Flash and reinstaqlled with no help. Still looking for ideas?
thanks...Jadie

jadie,
As a tech who has worked on probably every brand of computer you're familiar with I can assure you this isn't a Dell-specific problem. I'm using a XPS One at this very moment & I don't have the issue you're experiencing. The Firefox screenshot you provided is showing Flash program code near the top of the page (you should be seeing images of computers & text that when moused over display drop-down menus), which seems to point to Flash player being corrupted. The only thing I know for certain the two computers you say you're having this problem with share in common is the Netgear modem/router. Have you tried visiting any other web sites that display Flash content to see if it shows up properly some place other than dell.com?

Hi Namek,
Glad to hear from you. I understand that this is not a dell website problem, My rant was just about being so hooked on using the customizing feature on dells web site that I am not sure I can buy a new computer with out it. I'm sure the problem has to be on my end.
Not really sure how to tell if I visit other flash web sites, but I am retired and spend a lot of time on the internet. I can’t imagine that I have not visited other sites. If a site uses an “Active x” Control does that indicate that it is using Flash?. If so I have been to many with no problems. I have no problems on any site except dell.
I used the Uninstall Flash Player 4.0.0.8 from Adobe and reinstalled. I have reinstalled it 3 times I think since this started.
The plot thins. I turned on my wireless feature on my laptop and found my neighbor had an unsecured wireless modem running. I connected and Low and Behold the page loaded just fine! I guess this means my router/modem is the culprit. What do you think? And what now?
Again thanks so much for your help……jadie

jadie,
Sorry if it wasn't clear in my previous post. I didn't mean to say the problem has anything to do with the Dell web site, I meant it's not a problem specific to Dell computers. I had a feeling the modem/router was the cause. If you have a user guide for it there should be instructions for how to set its configuration utility back to defaults. I'm thinking that should take care of the problem. If you had to actually set anything up in there when you first got broadband in order for your other system to connect wirelessly that will have to be done again after you reset the utility.

HI Namek and others of interest,
I had the comcast techs here today and I am proud to say that I have resolved my problem. It turned to be the Modem / Router as suspected. Not sure, nor were the techs what was wrong with the Modem / router, but replacing it with a new one fixed the problem. For the techs as well as their boss it was a first.
Thanks again for your help Namek
