Plugging in USB device kills video/audio
When I plug in a USB device such as an Android smartphone or tablet, I lose video. The signal cuts out and my monitor displays "no signal". Audio also stops or hangs. The computer appears to keep running otherwise, but it unresponsive and I have to hold down the power button to shut it down. I have other devices plugged in with no issues (printers, keyboard/mouse).
It used to happen less frequently and I wasn't sure of the cause, but now it is very repeatable and happens almost immediately when I plug in my phone. I tried a USB port in the back of the PC, thinking it may just be a problem with the front ports, but the same problem occurred.
I am running Windows 7 32-bit. I have the Q6600 2.4 GHz quad-core and a Radeon HD 2600XT video card. I just updated the drivers on the video card and it did not help.
Anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this? Any assistance is appreciated.
