(First of all, excuse my english. I hope I done good, but I'm sure that it could be much better.)

 

Since a half year I got my Dell Inspiron L1720 laptop. It's a nice one, not much problems. The only problems I had was slow performance due to Vista. This was sorted pretty good after installing another 1GB of RAM. Few months later somehow there were some updates that couldn't be installed. I tried the solutions (given by HELP from Vista) but nothing worked. I decided to wait till the DUTCH Service Pack 1 is finally available (which is still not there).

Today there were 18 new updates, I installed them, and after some rebooting it said: Windows is Up-To-Date. I was very pleased, couldn't believe it almost, so I decided to let windows look for New Updates. I got 13 updates. I think those included the same updates which always used to crash.

I installed the rest of those updates too, but at the first rebooting attempt I noticed a very fast flash of a blue-screen. And since then windows couldnt boot again. Everytime it keeps showing this blue screen.

 

I really don't know what to do, I can insert windows cd, but it will turn also out to a blue screen. Also I got a special cd from Dell with diagnostics, but I really don't know what to do with it. I can load it, it runs some diagnostics, and for the rest I don't know what to do.

 

The blue screen shows: CLFS.sys

 

On dutch forums I read something about that file. I read that you should run CHKDSK and then it will be ok. But my question is how I could run it. I tried the CD, I actually been in DOS, but I don't know what to do next. Or how to actually run CHKDSK for my disk.

 

For information: I would REALLY like to keep my data, there is some important family pictures on it, which I didnt copy yet.

 

I hope you guys can help me out, its pretty urgent.
