I’m running into a strange issue with one of my VNX5300 systems and I’d like to check if anyone has seen something similar or has ideas on how to stabilize it.

I have two VNX5300 systems, both used for FILE (NFS) applications. Each system has a single Control Station (CS), and they are not in the same domain — both operate as standalone systems.

The first system, EMC1, works perfectly fine. When connecting via sysadmin, the system icon and data show up normally without any warnings. (see image emc1-cs0.png)

The second system, EMC2, behaves differently. When I connect to it using sysadmin, the system initially shows up with a yellow warning triangle, and the “capacity for file” field is empty and following 0xfffffffffffffff9 error:

Severity : Warning
System : emc2-cs0
Domain : Local
Created : Nov 10, 2025 9:57:08 AM
Message : Logging into 10.58.11.198 encountered an error.
Full Description : An error occurred during the login process. The control station did not log in properly.
Recommended Action : The login error may have occurred because:
1. Certificates are not accepted.
2. Both storage processors or the control station are not accessible.
3. You have logged in to a File or Block system using a local user account not defined on both the File and Block systems.
Event Code : 0xfffffffffffffff9

See image emc2-cs0_1.png

After about 30 seconds, the system name changes to CKM00xx, the yellow triangle disappears, and the file capacity information finally appears correctly. So it looks like some process or retry mechanism eventually completes, but only after a timeout or delay.

See emc2-cs0-2.png

For the 0xfffffffffffffff9 I tried to follow instructions at:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000056520/event-code-0xfffffffffffffff9-file-options-grayed-out

but no real benefit and I mainly manually crafted the files /nas/http/domain

[nasadmin@emc2-cs0 bin]$ ll /nas/http/domain
total 11
drwxr-xr-x 2 apache apache 1024 Nov 7 09:48 bak
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 62 Nov 7 11:20 domain_list
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 0 Nov 7 11:20 domain_log
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 193 Nov 7 11:20 domain_master
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 4883 Nov 7 11:20 domain_provider_xml
-rw------- 1 apache apache 117 Nov 7 11:20 domain_users
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 47 Nov 7 11:20 domain_version
drwxr-xr-x 2 apache apache 1024 Aug 30 2012 ldap
-rw-r--r-- 1 apache apache 0 Nov 6 14:38 lock_file
[nasadmin@emc2-cs0 bin]$

Any idea/suggestion ?

Thx!
