Aurora R10, air cooled, CPU temps

Hello all, I recently bought an alienware aurora r10 Ryzen 9 5900 12 core with the nividia gtx 3060 ti in in and its also air cooled I knew they were loud but upon further inspection my cpu temps are hitting 85 to 90c everytime I play a game either on low setting or high if it's ultra they are around 94 c...I read that temps around 85 to 90c are normal for amd ryzen 5900 but then I also read it's not. Looking for some solutions and some part numbers for liquid coolers or new air fans!  Thank you!

@Uprightbigg9 I used the fan set up shown in the video I linked.  Single fan in front and single fan below the cooling rad.  Fan in the front is intake, fan on the cooling rad is exhaust.  For which fans to use for intake and exhaust, that's up to you.  Just keep in mind ease of access when doing fan swaps.  It's much easier to swap the front fan than the fan attached to the cooling rad.

Watch this video by Ivan who mods his R10 with fans and a liquid cooler.

I think the Corsair H60 AIO fits the Alienware case. There's a thread about it: Aurora R10, Corsair H60 addition - Dell Community

Remember to check the 2 VRM heatsinks as well. Air-cooled AWs don't tend to come with those. Availability is tricky though.

Maybe if you find someone who's doing a case-swap and is willing to sell their original AIO and heatsinks etc.

Liquid cooling will be your only option. In my opinion they should never have sold the 5900 series without liquid cooling.

The low profile heat sink combined with the poor thermals on this case is making for poor air cooling performance.

Can only be rectified with liquid cooling, or moving the components over to a different case. Even with liquid cooling the 120 AIO is not going to allow for any real overclocking headroom.

Also I found the vrm heatsinks on ebay (aftermarket) are those necessary? And will I still be getting accurate readings on the command center for the new fans? Thank you for all help and advice

I'm just swapping out front intake with noctua fan and then the air cooled with h60 will I see temp improvements? Going from air to liquid also would I run into any bios start up errors etc

the dell original front fan is actually a high rpm high volume fan that may be better for airflow (at the expense of louder fan noise).  The corsair h60 replacing the air cooled cpu cooler was no issue.  The VRM heatsinks you'll likely need as it does get pretty hot (i got both via ebay but sometimes it's available on amazon).  AWCC does record temps ok but fan speed will be off as AWCC is expecting original fan RPMs.

my advice is just replace the air cooled with H60 and get the VRM heatsinks.  Changing front fan and doing push/pull on H60 doesn't adjust thermals much (trust me I've swapped everything and tested along the way).  H60 was the only significant thermal upgrade.  Other upgrades only reduced sound noise.

This youtube video shows gameplay improvements with VRM heatsinks

No.

Fan replacements are for noise.

CPU Cooling will see lower temps, and for that you need AIO and VRM heatsinks.

Bottom line is these should never even be offered as air cooled only.

So when I install the h60 my radiator then the fan in that order where my fan is closest to the h60 cooling pump? Also my fan arrow should be pointing upwards to blow out the top thru the radiator?

yes, with the single fan that comes with the H60, install it so it pushes the inside air through the radiator out of top of case (radiator will be on top with fan just below it).  you'll remove the top fan/bracket in order to install the new AIO radiator.

Quick run-down on what I did with my R10.  Picked up a H60 and installed 2 NF-A12x25 PWM Noctua fans.  Added VRM heatsinks.  The AIO was a noticeable difference right away.  The fans are extreme quiet and probably don't push as much air as the Delta stock fans but the upgrades were certainly worth it.

Well technically wouldn't need much air flow that the stock fans provided switching to liquid right? And I have the corsair ml120 pro and one of the noctua fans the a12x25 i was going to use as the fan on my radiator then use the fan with my h60 as my front intake as that is what's recommended in the manual. Could anyone be clear on where I'm supposed to plug the cooler into I know some say the cpu fan port or the pump port etc but one or the other throws codes
