Boot-up screen resolution

It seems that the Inspiron insists on booting up with a screen resolution of 3072x1920, which corresponds to the tiniest font available.  That is unpleasant, to say the least, for programs that get to work as soon as they get control upon bootup.  Is there any  way to change this (I'm not hopeful)? Is there any bootable image that would change the resolution to a more reasonable value and then reboot to another image? Any other workarounds?

You can try adjusting the scaling (advanced display settings) but what you're going to find is that the scaled display will not appear as crisp and sharp as if running at native resolution.

You've identified one of the big downsides of ultrahigh resolution displays - and yes, they're great for video and graphics, but not so much for productivity applications.

if the system is new, you may want to consider returning it in favor of a model with a lower resolution screen (this model doesn't have a lower resolution option).

What model system is it, and what resolution is the screen natively (for the latter, go into setup -- F2 at powerup) -- to check.

Notebooks work best at their native resolution -- anything lower will not produce an optimal image.

The system is model 7610 and the native resolution is 3072x1920.  Fonts at that resolution are quite tiny and extremely difficult to read.  That resolution is great for graphics, though.
