Dell 7400 audio issue, Realtek, microphone

Hi,

I'm facing really strange problem with audio.
I lost several hours already and I've read a lot of advice on this forum. Nothing works.

When I let Windows to automatically install the drivers, speakers and my microphone work fine but I get frozen screen for 10 seconds when going to audio setup. Also I have to wait for an audio on YouTube approximately 10 seconds. Everywhere audio is delayed even a system sound is 10 seconds late for example when I connect external device. Also when I open Skype or Zoom and go to audio settings I get frozen screen for 10 second.

When I install the Realtek audio driver from Dell website my microphone doesn't work properly. I can go to audio settings without a problem but the bar below 'Test your microphone' shows maximum volume and doesn't react at my voice. When I test the microphone for example in Skype i get only a strange high volume noise.

I tried to reinstall everything and switch off in device manager but nothing helped.

I don't understand completely what's going on and need your help please.

Were you able to get a fix for this? We have this same issue happening with several of our new 7400's we have deployed. Since moving remote, and having zoom calls constantly, this has become a major issue for us. Any resolution instructions would be fantastic!

    Thanks!

No unfortunately not. I reinstalled the Windows and immediately I switched off all updates to avoid update the audio driver. I know there is nothing associated with Zoom because I didn't install any software and got the issue anyway. I am waiting for Realtek or Dell to fix the drivers. They can't just wait for ages.

I have the same problem on a whole batch of 7400 laptops. I've tried just about everything. Bios, chipset, audio drivers, etc. Any idea what causes this on some but not all 7400s?

I'm not sure. I've deployed 6 machines and 4 of them have had issues with the microphone. They also do this fun thing where when they go to sleep and come back up the mouse pointer disappears and won't come back until you reboot. Has anyone tried a usb micropohone to see if that resolves the issue. I have 30 more machine to order this fiscal year and it won't be this model, that's for sure.

The sleep thing may be this, https://www.dell.com/community/Tablets-Mobile-Devices/Why-has-Dell-crippled-the-Windows-control-panel-advanced-power/m-p/4412180#M25436

I had similar issues. As for audio the only issues Ive had are with the dock not allowing someone to plug in headphones directly to the laptop.

Have you had any luck getting this resolved? We are starting to see similar issues with 7400s and audio. Dell is replacing motherboards but that doesn't seem to be helping.

    TIA

Wow, you're saying you swapped system boards and the issue persisted?
