Inspiron n5110 - Optimus problem ?
Hi,
Recently (about 2 months ago) purchased above laptop (core i7 with dual graphics card) from Dell Australia. Worked fine for about 2 weeks then started locking up intermittently with very fuzzy/tearing (basically non readible) screen. No automatic rebooting or blue screen , but it seemed laptop was still running. Hard reboot was required and laptop would go for a few days, then same problem.
Spoke to Dell support and after runniing diagnostic tests which found no errors or problems., reformatted hard drive and installed os from original DVD, unit was returned for replacement system board.
Motherboard was replaced and returned. Same problem after either 1 day or a number of days, screen locking and fuzzy, needing hard reboot. Checked event viewer and nothing critical shown (which seemed to confirm that laptop was still running despite fuzzy lock up.
Spoke again to Dell support and was advised not a hardware fault but must be in software. Told to do reinstall with driver install order per Dell website.
Anyway, after re-format and installing os and drivers in advised order, problem still exists.ie fuzzy screen lock ups every few days. I have tried to adjust optimus settings and everything, tried latest nividia drivers, all to no avail.
Anyone have the same issue and a workaround. I am starting to think there may be a lcd or cable problem. Really is unworkable and after 2 previous dell laptops I am losing faith in Dell.
One thing, I should mention - when original re-formatting the hard drive for some reason the factory restore partition was deleted by mistake. Therefore I am unable to go back to factory settings. I am led to believe I am unable to obtain factory setting hard drive CD's, as is available in US. Is this correct also?
Thanks
James
