Spec:  P4 2.53 Ghz, 512 RAM, 30Gb HD, XP Home, Generic Soft 56K Modem, DVD-RW

Hi,

My Dell 4550 has been working great recently and I was really happy until I shut it down and unplugged it last night to dust off .  Then when I plugged it back in it said it had found new hardware (USB MidiMan 2x2) which has been installed and working for ages now.  So, I re-installed the driver for that like it asked and that went fine.  However, problems came when I went to connect to the net.  The dreaded blue screen appeared and I got this error:

A Problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.             BAD POOL CALLER. Stop: 0x000000c2                                                                                                                       If this is the first time you have seen this screen check any new hardware or software is installed correctly.  If problems continue disable or removed any new hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.  If you need to use Safe Mode press F8 on start-up.

So, first off I removed the Midiman 2x2 drivers and re-booted.  Then gave the internet a shot again.  Blue screen again.  So, I gave system restore a shot.  No luck, tried system restore to another restore point - no luck.  Every time I try to dial-up it crashes with the same error.  So, by this point I am thinking - mabye before I shut down the computer to unplug & dust I should have chosen to Stop the Hardware device from the sys tray.  Seeems stupid cos the computer was off when I uplugged so the hardware was already stopped.  Anyway - so now I think by not stopping the hardware I have somehow corrupted the modem driver.  So - ok I went into Device Manager and selected properties of the Modem driver and it crashed again.  So I have narrowed down the problem to the Modem - either the hardware is now damaged or the driver is corrupted.  After re-booting again in device manager this time I have tried to update the driver but it says that the best driver is the one currently being used.  I disabled the modem driver from device manager which enabled me to view the properties of it and see there are no conflicts.  So I un-installed the driver and re-booted the machine and it sensed the modem and auto-installed the best driver.  However, now I am back at square one.  If I try to dial up the Blue screen appears and Windows closes. 

Please help someone - I really need to get my e-mails and my web site is sitting unattended and it desperately needs some work.  I cant afford to send the machine away and lose time.   Thanks very much i'm sure this one will challenge u!
