I've got a XPS13 9343 that came with the Broadcom wireless card. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi is very slow and sometimes I can't even connect to any network (especially when only 5 Ghz networks are available.
This is a brand new laptop (1 month) should I contact Dell or simply go out and buy a Intel Wi-Fi card? If so, anyone have a link or recommendation which card to get?
Sorry to hear about the slow connection speed problems with your new system. Connection speeds are subject to so many variables it's hard to pinpoint what is causing the problems at times.
Which version of the Windows 10 driver for your wireless card do you currently have on that system?
How to identify the driver on Device Manager?
Launch Charms from the desktop interface.
Select Settings.
Select Control Panel.
Select Hardware and Sound.
Select Device Manager and expand Network Adapters.
You can go to our main support pages, click on the Downloads & Drivers link, and the browse for the Network drivers listing. (Make sure you filter it to the Windows 10 operating system drivers). You can check for a newer version of the driver and install that to see if it helps.
Also, are you using any bluetooth devices with that laptop? What happens to your connections when you turn off bluetooth? Any improvements?
Trying a different driver for the card would be my first recommendation, long before I would recommend trying a different card in the system. Let us know what version you're running and we'll see what else we can suggest to try to resolve the problem.
Is that speed issue the same on all wireless networks or are you connecting to just one? Did you try turning off bluetooth to see if that effects the connection speed at all? When you replaced the wireless card did you check to see if any of the antenna leads appear to be crimped or bent?
Are you using the Intel Proset to handle your wireless connection? If so, did you run the diagnostics in that utility to see if it can find any issues?
