Optiplex won't recognized a 2nd hard drive on the same cable. Why?
I tried to help my friend adding a second hard drive (western digital 120) to an Optiplex 160L, but failed.
I put the original 40GB (maxtor) and the new one on the same cable (CS mode), neither of the hard drives could be recognized by the Pc. So, I changed the jumpers to Master/salve (and also change the order of those two drives), still not working.
If I only connect one drive (40GB or 120GB), there was not problem. The PC recognized both (but not at the same time).
If I connect one drive on the second IDE controller (on the same cable with the CD-ROAM), then both drives worked at the same time.
There is a problem with this kind setting: the IDE cable was not long enough to connect hard drive & the CD-ROM on the same cable.
I did also upgrade the flashbios from A02 to A05, and that seems no help at all.
What will be the trick to make both hard drives working on the same IDE cable?
Thanks.
