Have a Dimension 9200 bought Vista ready in January, upgrade disks landed about May and were installed a couple of months later, not sure exactly when.

 

I have had a host of problems since upgrading.  I have been on to Dell, my hard disk and memory are fine, also a lady from Microsoft who was extremely helpful, after trying loads of things with me, she thinks its time to do a clean install.

 

The last thing we tried was sfc /scannow but during the Verification stage I get an error.  Verification 64% complete. Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.  I would be extremely grateful if someone could tell me what that means.

 

A lot of my problems seem to stem from Windows updates, have been able to install most although there are a few that absolutely refuse to install.

 

I have a dial up connection and I have spent hours and I mean hours downloading stuff to upgrade things.  If I have to I will but is there no way I can try and do a repair or something.  Another thing that bothers me is that Vista seems to assume that everyone has broadband but they dont...
