problem connecting to the internet
I was using my dell inspiron laptop on the blueyonder internet service for around 3 weeks with no problem, it did not connect so we tried disabling and enabling the connection, since then it hasn't worked at all. We've tried all the turning the modem off, unpluging it and all the cables and putting them back in again. We rang blueyonder who helped us check our settings which are all OK. So we tried uninstalling then installing the network software and we can't get it to work as we always encounter the error DHCP server cannot renew IP addres. We;ve tried the cmd ipconfig release and renew but that does not work. We have installed and run antivirus, malware, spyware and trojan hunter programs but that has not helped. So we tried phoning blue yonder again and they told us that the problem wasn't with their equipment it was with the computer. I am all out of ideas any help would be appreciated or should i start looking at re installing windows or even buying a new computer. The problem definetely not with the modem as the internet works on my laptop.
Cheers

Do the link lights on both the computer and the modem light up when both are powered on and connected?

Did you run the diagnostics (if you need them, you can download them from the same site I referenced above).

I'm at a loss at this point. Either it is a bad nework card or a some software configuration that will be difficult to find without completely wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. The only way you can determine if it is Windows network problem or a bad card would be if you could borrow a PCMCIA ethernet network card and temporarily intall it the PC card slot. If that works, then it would highly suggest that the integrated network card is faulty.
