I bought an 1000W psu off ebay for the alienware aurora r10 ryzen edition. I’m connecting the plugs and the cpu cable is missing the cables for 2 of the 8 plugs. i’m not too good with pc’s but i think im doing everything right. Is the missing pins the problem?
as you can see in Dell part description, vendor shipped you a PCIe 8 pin cable (6 pin actually wired). it is not the CPU cable.
for the Dell R5-R8 those proprietary boards have a dedicated GPU_PWR 8 pin socket on board, which some claim must be plugged in before the board can POST. R10 board has got rid of that socket. but this cable might be a left over from legacy models.
@redxps630 thank you for the response, any other idea why my monitor isn’t reading any picture? i believe i’ve connected all i need too. but i don’t know about these last two plugs.
@Vanadiel My original is wired with 8 pins your correct, so are you saying that’s the problem or is it something else? and if so would i need a higher powered cpu cable
you might be using the modular cable of a Dell modular 1000w psu for multiple models including area 51 XPS aurora. double check the power cable. there should be a dedicated 8 pin CPU power cable for the R10 8 pin CPU power socket. this cable in pic might be an auxiliary gpu power cable not meant for R10. please upload the DP/N of the cable.

this is a modular Dell psu which came with a set of proprietary cables. all the cables have 6 pin on psu side.
also ask Vandaniel to upload R10 6 pin power cable DP/N.

I assume you had 550w non modular psu before and are trying to upgrade to 1000w. the 850w/1000w and 1300 w Dell psu are all modular.
