Sorry, I couldn't see an option to edit my last post.  I ran the barcode on the Thermal shield and it says 

CN026X1Y5IC000C1002FX02

But I am still at a loss how I get one.

Beneath white label's square matrix barcode is CN-026X1Y-5IC00-0C1-002F-X02 = Dell Part Number 026X1Y, 26X1Y.  All Dell Sales agents and Technical Support agents have access to catalog, but these items are marked "For Sale: No".  These items are not currently available from Amazon, eBay, etc. 

Dell Support do not help their customers/users, they post the images, but do not include part numbers.

Thanks for the response, and thanks for the extra part numbers.  I'm confused to why you say this isn't for sale though.  How do we get this?  Right now I'm being passed on through the departments of Dell as nobody seems to want to acknowledge this for me.  Each response is either misunderstood or passed to someone else.

Without this shield there is no way to secure another M.2 drive in place which for me leaves the laptop not suitable for my use.

Hi @InfiniteSD  the M.2 2280 card is secured in place with a single screw. It is debatable that a heatsink thermal shield is necessary. You can now give Dell Product Support their part number 26X1Y, and try to order this item.

You know your Dell products, thanks for the support.  I'm still getting the runaround right now, but I'll keep trying.  Pretty sure if this was a burger, I'd caused enough fuss to not want to eat it when they brought it back out.  I'm hoping Dell aren't so inclined to doing the same.

Going to mark this as resolved.  If I need anything else I'll come back.

Does seem odd that they don't include this to begin with, especially for the price of the Alienware systems.  My Aurora R7 came with the extra parts.

Mine just arrived. Back it goes. Don't have time to hunt for the thermal shield.  Amazingly dumb for dell to not include it. I'd pay the extra $1.00 for the piece of metal.

For comparison, HP is much worse with their Z-stations. They require a thermal caddy that is hard to come by and ain't cheap.

Alienware has beautiful design, but I wonder how they miss things like this.

Hi @InfiniteSD  this system has two internal M.2 2230/2280 slots and both employ an insertable screw mount to install the M.2 2230 or the M.2 2280 card. There are two different types of heatsinks / thermal shields to cater for the different card lengths and these just sit on top of the PCIe socket, no insertable captivation. We note that the M.2 2280 thermal shield is installed with two screws. Images of the M.2 2230 thermal shield suggest that it is installed with only one screw. 

The Dell Service Manual neglects to clarify if the insertable screw mount is pre-installed for the second slot, and neglects to provide Dell part numbers for the M.2 2230 or the M.2 2280 heatsinks / thermal shields. @DELL-Cares 

If any user is installing a second card into slot 2, remember to ask Dell Product Support if an installation kit is required. Please share Dell part numbers so that other users can upgrade their drives. Thank you. 

Hi @InfiniteSD  Dell Product Support fail to use the Dell Tools provided... Note: All Dell Sales agents and Technical Support agents have access to the, internal to Dell, online catalog.  Dell needs to get their front line call takers and their local line management, trained to do their job. Dell quality control is not what it used to be. 

Have provided feedback within the Dell Service Manual. Not sure if this works.
