Data Execution Protection WinXP Pro SP2

I have a new latitude 810 with WinXP Pro SP2 on it.  Just transferring programs from an old Inspiron to the new laptop.  Old Inspiron running Win XP Home SP2.  Both run McAfee Virus scan (up-to-date Engine and DAT file), Zone Alarm Firewall, Ad-Aware protection.
Networked together with a Desktop using Win networking and an Ethernet hub.

Everything was working well to begin with, but then it started to go wrong .....

Suddenly I'm getting DEP messages when I try to:
Run MY Computer or
Run Windows Explorer or
Open Control Panel
Open items in the Control Panel such as " Network Connections"

Each time the message says:
" To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this Program
Name               Windows Explorer
Publisher           Microsoft"

Why is Microsoft trying to stop me using its own Program, and why is it saying "Windows Explorer" when I try the Control Panel?

Help!  Can anybody suggest why this is happening and what I might do to get rid of it?
