Silly question

 

If I were to take a Dell PC and were to go out and buy and install a full retail OS would I be able to reinstall the original shipped OS as a virtual machine using VMWare. For example, if the PC shipped with XP and I purchased Vista, could I then reinstall XP as a vitrual machine using the Dell discs that shipped with the PC?

 

I know how to deal with the drivers etc and I know about booting to two OS, but I don't know if

 

1) The Dell OEM agreement will allow the OS to be installed virtually on the machine that the OEM is tied to, or if it has to be installed raw

2) If the Dell disc will pick up the codes from the motherboard that tell it that it's being installed on a genuine Dell PC if the PC is virtual.
