Need help restoring from hibernation
Computer: Dell Inspiron 8200, 1.7 ghz, 512 mb ram, 40 gb HD with 10 gb free. Running Win XP Pro, SP2, with hibernation enabled.
Computer goes into hibernation seemingly fine. But when I power up, I see the B&W screen showing the computer restoring, but then instead of the Windows desktop, I get a blank screen. Nothing then works except holding the power button down for 4 seconds to shut off the computer. When I boot again, I get the message that hibernation failed, and have a choice to delete the hibernation file and boot from scratch, or try again...and the latter gives the same blank screen results.
I've tried deleting the hibernation file, error-checking and defragmenting the hard drive, and disabling/re-enabling hibernation, but nothing helps.
Any ideas? I rely on hibernation because I use this laptop in my car, and hibernation allows my mapping program and music player both to resume where they left off. Works fine on my Latitude C600, but I'm stuck on the 8200.
