Thank God I sold my Inspiron 1100 (for 850$, hurrah!)
It was a "nice" lap but on summer I went to Disney and around Florida. I had like 1GB of all my pictures of the trip. when I came back the Laptop didn’t boot. When I went on the windows screen it restarted. I was terrorized, all my Pics. I took it to a repair shot and they did shi#.
As a last resource I put the windows CD and it booted. I gave a restore XP and the laptop was alive again. But you seem in deeper waters, your symptoms looks like a mayor failure.
