Wireless Minipci Card for Inspiron 9100?

Hi, I was wondering if you can install either the Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN MiniPCI Adapter or its 'big brother' the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG LAN MiniPCI Adapter without any problems in a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop? In the manual that came with it, there was a line that said you could install 802.11b (as with the 2100 minipci card) but the 802.11g (the 2200bg) would have to be installed by a Dell technician. Is there any specific reason for this or can you do it on your own just as well? Thanks for any help you can give me in advance.

i think i've seen that FCC requires a tech for A card installations -- i wasn't aware it applied to g though

My son recently bought a refurbished Inspiron 9100 on EBay. When I installed the Truemobil 1300 minipci wireless card the system locks up on reboot. I tried a different card (Intel 2100) I get the same thing. If I pull the card out so there is nothing in the minipci slot it boots fine. If this is a simple fix I'd rather do it myself rather than send the unit back to Texas...any suggestions?
