The 1704FPV ( Not FPT ) has the 25ms and is cheaper, than there is the 1704FPT with 13 ms that is better for games.  I have the 1703FP with 25ms and I have no problems with ghosting in games, but other's have better eyes than I do, so they may see the ghosting.

thanks, but that horrible, why would dell do that, makes you think your getting the same monitor for $300 cheaper, but your not, your just getting the same cheap monitor as the value flat panel 17".

The 1704FPV has the 1000:1 contrast ratio and the ultra sharp 1704FP does not ( Only 500:1 contrast ratio ).  Other differences as well.  They are both good monitors, but one with the 13 ms response time, is geared towards gamers and the other one is not, but still can play games as my 25 ms response time LCD.

Does anyone know the color support for the Dell UltraSharp 1704FPT?

I have been shopping for a 17" LCD for several weeks now and the Dell 1704FPT looks very attractive.  IF it's a 24 bit monitor, that is.  I can't find the answer to this question.

I want a 24-bit monitor that supports 16.7 million colors.  I do not want a monitor that uses 18-bit processing and supports 16.2 million colors (many monitor manufacturers are doing this:  the 18-bit monitors have better response times, but they get there by "cheating" - they use 18-bit processing and dithering to simulate the 500,000 colors the monitor cannot truely display).

So is the Dell 1704FPT an 18 or 24 bit monitor?  Does anyone know?

I've talked to Dell tech support twice.  They have no idea.

I've made four emails:  the last response I got was a link to the users guide (no help at all since it's not in the user guide).

Needless to say, I'm highly suspicious of Dell right now.  All of the other monitor makers make color support a readily available specification.  But not Dell.....

Any help would be appreciated!

32 bits?   You wouldn't happen to have a link to support that statement would you?

The reason I ask is that I've never heard of a monitor offering 32bit support.  All I've ever seen is 18-bit or 24-bit.

If it really is 32 bits, I'm buying one.

You may want to check out the LG Flatron L1720P - it specs say displays colors - more than 16.1 million ( 6 bit + FRC).

Plus a graphic artist had rave statement on epinions about it ($329 @ BestBuy after rebates) -
