this issue has been posted many many MANY times and the answer is "dell doesn't say nething so no one knows"  no harsh feelings towards you personally, but i am sick and tired of hearing about dell and the m10.  if someone really wanted to get an m10 and that was their deciding factor, then they should not be looking at dell at this point.

I read a few threads and saw it mentioned a couple times but in no centralized place.  I was hoping this thread could serve that purpose.  Most of what I saw was in that request to dell to allow upgradeable video cards and in one other thread I don't remember that someone was mentioning dates like mid december for the ait9600 and late feb for the inspiron 9100.  I don't known where they got the info from or if it was reputable so if we got it in one centralized place we can see if stories match up.  I do like dell and want their great screens, decent prices, support, etc and it is certainly smart when you spend $3000 to see if it is worth waiting a couple weeks if there is going to get a much better release.  Obviously in computer technology it changes almost everyday but I want something I can keep a while and be happy with and that means a top notch system with the best components available today where no one component acts as a bottleneck for the rest of the system.  I wouldn't mind buying an 8600 if it came with the ati 9600 but if there is going to be a new inspiron released soon maybe it is better to get that one.  All I am trying to do is some research.

No offense but if you are sick of reading about it then why are you reading the threads on it and posting messages?

...I know...you want one too.

mnguyen281, how reliable is your information?  I was looking at getting a 5150 in the next few weeks, but if what you say is true, then I may need to hold out some weeks more.

Ok I won't ask you how you know but what else do you predict will be in there to make it worth waiting?

 I assume the ati9600?????

I would also assume a new inspiron with possibly a new chassis but again what do you think?

Do you think they will have the 1.8ghz P-M processor in there with the 2mb of cache (dothans instead of benais)?  Or will they go for brute power with >3.2ghz p4m?

400mhz RAM?

What else????

i swear to you its 100% reliable - im not one to spread rumors on these forums.  let's just think of it at a logical and profitable prospective.  Q4 is the busiest quarter of the year - the quarter that just about all businesses expect the most sales.  would you unleash a new model and let your old one sit and rot or would you want to liquidate your stock of older models (8600) and release a new one right after the holiday season...

i have never known dell to prerelease any information.  its always been a leak and then speculation, but never an official announcement saying "we are going to release this and that on this date"  well except for the x3, w1700, and dj - but then these are their "home" products and i think they were just trying to look legitimate in moving away from "pc only"

i will be completely honest - i dont know the exact specs, only model names and general info.  9100 will be out in january and will be a centrino while a sager/alienware fighting INSPIRON XPS (yea u read that right) will be out about march.  i expect that xps to be basically a desktop - full size dimms and desktop processor like the alienware and sagers.  INSPIRON XPS, imagine that...  like what was speculated before - the 8600 is nothing but a "hold over" system - not a new one at all.

i will not claim that this is straight from dell official info, only word of mouth to me by a high up dell employee which can basically be considered rumor now.  there u have it.  if it means anything, i completely trust this guy.  thanks.

Now that is what I wanted to hear at 3:30am.  That sounds cool that dell may finally get a great gaming system out but March is a little longer than I wanted to wait.  Have you heard anything much about the sager 8890?  I think I may go with that depending on what dell has out a month or so from now.  I still can't believe dell might come out with a desktop processor version....they must have been reading these forums and realizing how many sales they are losing to the gamers after one thread got to about 40 pages.  Way to go dell...now just get it out faster.

How soon does dell generally announce a new model before it comes out?  What has been the case with the latest inspirons?  I am just wondering when we might hear this substantiated if it is indeed going to happen (for both the 9100 and xps).

Thanks for sharing the info.  If you are lying there are going to be a lot of angry forum members coming after you.
