SturmteK....If you are a heavy gamer or want to play the better games out today, like half-life 2, Doom and Halo, that system will play the games, but with the game settings down a notch or two. Think carefully about what you really want it for, than ask a bunch of questions of other Inspiron 600 owners about how the games play on their systems, before the purchase. Make another post for 600 owners and games that will play on them..Good luck
You see guys, from what I have read, all of the slowdowns are caused by intence gaming. I personally would like this 600m for writing/music importing/DVD and the occasional game. And even, the game I had in mind older games in which the highest recomended requirement`s are 800mhz/ 256mb ram/32mb vid card.
I cant decide if I should get the 600m :smileyindifferent:
We use the I600M for tutoring students. We run the full Adobe Suite + Microsoft Office. We do Video editing with Vegas Video and the laptop is quite super. We have used a numerous amount of Dell laptops in the past and after researching carefully all the laptops offered by Dell, the I600M was our final choice. We did upgrade later to 1GB RAM and (2) 7K60s for our video work, but we made sure that we got the 64MB Video card for better rendering of graphics.
We don't use the I600M for games, though some of our students do. The I600M meets our educational requirements and after using Dell Latitudes to the present Dell Inspirons, our students and ourselves are quite satisfied with the I600Ms. Your decision should be based on your needs and we hope this helps. Hello. I received my 600m not too long ago, about 2 weeks now. My specs are not that much different from the system you're looking for. My system includes:
Intel Pentium®M,1.8GHz
14.1 SXGA+ ATI Radeon 64MB Video
1GB DDR SDRAM
60GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
*note: the 7200rpm HD option is not available for the 600m due to the compact size
To reply to your question:
Yes, it still has the slowdown. I've been playing my Need For Speed Underground 1 @ 800x600 w/ medium detail and it runs smoothly until it randomly hits a 3~5 minute period of choppyness. It seems to happen when I've been playing for awhile and when the system is hot. So when it happens I just wait for it to return from the choppyness.
I've been trying to update the Radeon drivers but it keeps telling me to insert disk #1 in the middle of installation. Anyone know a way around this driver install problem or better yet, know a way to eliminate the choppyness?
Well, I think the problem can be solved with the newest bios flash. While reading other users posts I noticed that the problem only happens with the A14 bios, so I flashed mine and to A16 and played the game without problem.
