joe jet,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Dell is currently looking into this issue. I will post information once I get a response back from the Engineers.

The hum is present on all 2405FPWs I've tried. However, the hum is tolerable whereas the whine clearly is not.

I hope Dell can come back with a good answer and/or solution for this. For those of us who were early adopters (raises hand), how Dell responds would be a testament to the quality of their customer service and post-sales support.

Also, I listened to the 2001FP and some other Dell monitors that I have around... they all make a faint buzz if you listen really close.  Nothing like the Loud whine that my first 2401FPW had though.

Hi Everyone,

I've had the same problem twice now. The monitor gets so loud its drives you nuts. I use it as a HDTV with Monster component cables and before the monitor heats up the picture is so clear and sharp, but after twenty minutes the buzzing starts and I lose major picture quality. This has been the case on both monitors I've tried. It produces horizontal lines when using the components inputs when it heats up. I have to turn it off for about 20 minutes then the picture is great and no buzzing but it only lasts about 15 minutes then same thing all over. The buzzing noise is still there even after removing all the input cables DVI, VGA, S-Video and Components. I've also switch the power cords. I'm now waiting for my third replacement..

Regards to all,

Matt

Add me to the list.  Just installed my 2405FPW an hour ago.  At first I pretended it wasn't there but now I have a head ache.  Did a web search and ended up here.

Return or exchange?

I say return and wait until they fix the problem... then re-buy!

I got the same problem.
As soon as 2405FPW warms up (about 1 - 1.5 hours), the high-pitched noise starts... it's pretty loud and overpowers a very loud PC and can be heard anywhere in the room.  Very annoying.

I have a feeling that all of these monitors have this issue, and some people who are OK might just be running their PC in a cooler room.  My room temp is around 77 degrees, which probably makes the problem worse than for others.

I am returning mine.  It seems to me that unless Dell comes up with a fix for this REAL SOON, they will loose a ton of money on RMA's.  It's a shame they couldn't put a high-quality components in a $1200 monitor.

Same here, this is my second one after a replacement but I still have the same noise. Very very disturbing. :smileysad:

Waiting for info or I send it back.

After being told i was being sent a replacement, i decided to call dell and find out what the status is of the new monitor.

I guess i should not be surprised, but after getting through i was told that NO RECORD existed of my request for a replacment.

Ok - now it goes back - for Good.

Any reccomendations for a suitable replacement? I hear the HP's are good.

I've only used my monitor for a few 15 minute sessions.  I can verify that a slight humming occurs as a result of using any brightness setting less than 100%. If I turn up the brightness setting to 100%, the humming stops. This makes some sense as the backlight needs to be pulsed to simulate dimming.

The whining noise is apparently something that gets louder at brightness 100%, or is at least constant. I'm sure I'll hear the whine eventually. Now where did I put my sunglasses....

OK, the whine is starting to heat up now.  My monitor has been on 100% for about 30 minutes now. I'm using D-sub connection, and the entire picture is vibrating horizontally with wavy lines travelling down the screen.  I've taken some pictures of it but I don't have anywhere to post them right now.

The picture is vibrating so fast it looks like I'm looking out a car windshield in the rain.  What a P.O.S.

I think with the hot August month upon us, we will be finding more reports of this problem as other users leave their monitors on for longer periods of time in 80+ degrees of heat.

I hope Dell can come up with a reasonable solution for this!
