Hit the Fn and F7 key at the same time to get rid of the black border problem. This is very common scenario especially if you temporarily disconnect the video cable to work on machine.  Also check your video card resolution to make sure it is set where you want it.

It's only a problem during start-up (the dell and windows start-up screens are very small).  I set my resolution at 1600x1200 so everything else looks fine, but this can't be normal.  It also seems to take a bit longer to boot.  All this from just replacing my palm rest assembly?

On another note, I decided to replace my video card with a Radeon 9000 to see if that helped, but I can't find a driver compatible with the I8100.  Does anyone know what drivers people are using?

Sorry funtoupgrade, your suggestion did help.

Now, if I can locate some I8100 Radeon 9000 64mb drivers I'd be all set...

The I8200 drivers won't work.  It gives an error message saying 'driver not found' and to download a standard driver first.  I've been told that this card will work with my 8100 UXGA, so it's a matter of finding the right driver I guess.

I think the one from the 8200.

Thanks for everyone's advice; I finally got the drivers working on my new card.  Unfortunately my start-up screens still flicker and there's a few blue pixels on my Windows xp start-up screen.

I just received an e-mail from the seller saying that replacing the palm rest removes the bios battery, erasing the bios information on the drives.  Is there a fix for this?  I tried to reinstall my A15 BIOS but it said I already have them and wouldn't let me install them again.  I'm not exactly sure what it means to flash your bios...I've heard people discussing this.

By removing the battery all you lost were the changed settings and the date/time.  Get into the BIOS and set things as you want/need them.  There are not a lot you can change, so you cannot get into too much trouble!  :smileyvery-happy:
